NT will never be rewritten. The standalone computing model is dying and NT + WIN is the last leg in its evolution. Surely both OSs will be improved, but no major rewrites. This fact is the only "wall" facing MSFT. MSFT is already addressing this problem with their announcement with @Home today. In coming years MSFT will develop what is truly a network OS: distributed image computing model, a technology that simply couldn't practically be implemented with slow remote access. The concept is to place a software image anywhere it optimally can be executed. That implies that only objects are transiently locally stored. Code almost always would evaporate after execution.
