>> Why an MRI costs $1,080 in America and $280 in France

Well, it could have to do with the fact that France has fewer than 10 MRI machines per million people vs. other European countries which have 17 per million putting France among the least well-equipped European countries, RESULTING IN AVERAGE WAIT TIMES OF 32.2 DAYS (and those in underprivileged areas waiting twice that).

And to a very large extent it has to do with Medicare underpaying for MRIs shifting costs to other payers. Medicare typically pays around $400-500 for an MRI. All in. So, $1,080 is not an actual figure; it is a gross figure that is ALWAYS written down.
