What they did wrong is loan those banks money. Because that what a bank account is, a loan to the bank by a "saver"...

The is a haircut on lenders we normally refer to as depositors..

Think it would been better to force that 10% deposit/loan into a special trust that must be paid back, but could not be withdrawn for a period of time.. Like a CD..

Why do you think the UK and Switzerland have refused to be part of the Euro?

The #1 reason is that they know that EU officials and banksters make STUPID decisions all the time. Always in the name of togetherness or what's good for the whole might cause some pain for the few.

Naturally the banksters and the IMF will decide to take it out on the masses.

Happens all the time.

...and yes, this article is slightly better written.

The EU is obviously considering pulling this "steal the people's money" on Ireland in short order..... why else would you deploy this strategy over St Patrick's weekend...... when the Irish are off at the pub drinking whiskey and Ale....... I don't think it was that widely noted that the Global Head of Deutsche Bank was at an industry conference on Friday and stated that Only Jesus Christ could save the Euro.......

I was talking with a long time colleauge and we could not remember when a major financial executive made such a provocative statement and somehow I don't believe that saving the Euro is the preeminent concern of Christ...........

we have known that problems like this have been building for several years....... People like John Mauldin have written books on it "the EndGame" Marc Faber, Bill Gross, John Taylor, John Paulson have been taking frontrunning measures.........but as is often the case...... things are good until they are not.
