"And this is a Republic and in a republic the people decide the will of the tribe. If the rich don't want to do their fair share and want to leave, let them."

Nice try Koan but in a democracy the people decide the will of the tribe. The USA is a Constitutional Republic and is protected from your tribe’s shenanigans. You can however leave anytime you want.

"Today, when a concerted effort is made to obliterate this point, it cannot be repeated too often that the Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals -- that it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government -- that it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."

"The American system is not a democracy. It is a constitutional republic. A democracy, if you attach meaning to terms, is a system of unlimited majority rule . . . a form of collectivism, which denies individual rights . . . . The American system is a constitutionally limited republic, restricted to the protection of individual rights. In such a system, majority rule is applicable only to lesser details, such as the selection of certain personnel. But the majority has no say over the basic principles governing the government. It has no power to ask for or gain the infringement of individual rights."

Humans are a pack animal. We live in social groups.

Saying Democrats are for a nanny state, is like saying a wolf pack is for a nanny state!

Living in social groups does not necessitate all of our decisions being made by politicians over every facet of our lives.

Your analogy makes no sense at all. In a wolf pack, if a wolf isn't pulling its weight, the other wolves don't coddle it and send the other wolves to sensitivity training to understand the under performing wolf's problems. They chase it out of the pack and put it out on to fend for itself.

One thing that you might want to understand about the United States is that we have a Constitution. And the Constitution was put in place to protect the rights of individuals from the state and/or the majority. We have individual rights even if the majority doesn't agree with them. That is the foundation of this country and it is a point that most liberals forget until it is their pet right that is being threatened.
