Market makers can change hands. You went along and all of sudden the moves on your stock changed. A stronger marklet makers can buy the short interest from a smaller market maker by simply take over the cash pool and the short interest. A larger market maker can also pay cash to buy the stock inventory of another market maker. Trading data on Nasdaq, some times show this activity in retrospect. Suddenly, one name is replaced by another. Smith Barney replaced Goldman, Sachs on AMES stock. Guntal replaced Lew Lieberbaum on SEMI stock. And some one else replaced Lew Lieberbaum on their big position on CCUR.

Did the price actions change? CCUR went into a base building. AMES went up to average the borrowed stock up. And SEMI change is too small to effect the price actions.

MSEL added oppenheimer, and Bear stearns, the price now is quite solid.
