What it looks like here is the Chicago market bouncing on short-covering after the NY market closed, so naturally the spread goes higher.

FWIW, the spread started making new highs before the close, around 15:55, so I don't think it's only a result of the market close. I notice that the SPX also changes value for a few minutes after the close. Do you know why it does?
