>Rackspace rises after blog says IBM investigated acquisition

Shares of cloud computing company Rackspace Hosting (RAX) are rising after technology blog GigaOM said late Friday that IBM (IBM) had investigated an acquisition of the company. According to the report by author Barb Darrow, a former IBM executive speaking on the condition of anonymity said IBM was looking at Rackspace "as of a month or so ago," in addition to being "very interested" in acquiring the privately-held cloud company SoftLayer. Darrow added that EMC (EMC), which had also been reportedly interested in SoftLayer, was not likely to acquire it, citing sources close to the matter. In mid-morning trading, shares of Rackspace advanced $3.15, or 6.14%, to $54.43, while IBM slid 0.4% to $214.04.
