Republicans Secretly Think Hillary Clinton Is Going To Crush Them In 2016

Grace Wyler | Mar. 21, 2013, 8:41 PM | 1,946 |

AP

As Republicans begin to gear up for the 2016 presidential race, GOP insiders have one major concern that wasn't mentioned anywhere in the RNC's autopsy report.

Her name is Hillary Clinton, and Republicans worry that they won't have a shot against her, regardless of what changes the party makes before 2016.

Although most Republican strategists would not go on the record disparaging the party's chances, in private conversations with Business Insider, many savvy GOP insiders conceded that any Republican nominee would face an uphill battle against the former Secretary of State.

"If she runs, it'll be almost impossible, I fear," one Washington-based Republican strategist told Business Insider.

A New York-based GOP media strategist concurred:

"It will be extremely hard for Republicans to beat Hillary in 2016," he said, adding that the difficulties would be compounded if the party nominates another candidate who fails to ignite the conservative base.

"Should Hilary run and Jeb [Bush] be the nominees, how can you ever defend the Bush years against the Clinton years?"

Recent polling validates these concerns. A new Quinnipiac survey released Thursday found that Clinton would beat both Bush and Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio in a head-to-head match up in the Sunshine State.

According to that poll, if the race were held today, Clinton would dominate Bush, 51 percent to 40 percent, and beat Rubio by a slightly bigger margin, 52 to 41 percent. Her favorability rating is also much higher than either of the home-state Republicans — 62 percent of Florida voters view Clinton favorably, compared to 50 percent for Bush and 41 percent for Rubio.

On a national scale, Clinton left office with a record-high favorability ratings — a J anuary Washington Post/ABC News poll found that a full 67 percent of Americans viewed the outgoing Secretary of State favorably.

In addition to her popularity, Clinton's national name-recognition and extensive fundraising network — not to mention her experience running a presidential campaign — make her a formidable opponent to both Democrats and Republicans.

But the biggest problem for the GOP is that if Clinton decides to run, the Democratic primary will likely turn into a de facto contest to pick her running mate, giving the party a big head start in the general election. In the meantime, Republicans will likely have to slog through a contentious primary with what is shaping up to be a very crowded field.

"Hillary's path forward will likely influence the breadth of Republican field as much as the Democratic," a Washington-based GOP strategist told Business Insider.

Still, some Republicans are holding out hope that a candidate will emerge who can beat Clinton.

"Republicans can beat Hillary, but no one has emerged yet," one New Hampshire-based GOP operative said. "But three years is a long time."

Michael Duncan, a Texas-based Republican consultant, concurred:

"Clinton brings the stature and fundraising prowess of someone who's been in Washington for 20 years. But I also think that advantage is mitigated by voters widespread mistrust of our established political leaders," Duncan said. "Republicans should look to the 2008 primary as a guide and nominate a fresh-faced outsider that can create the contrast Barack Obama did. Senators Rand Paul and Ted Cruz are two of those transformative figures."

Jason Chaffetz baits trap for Dem SenatorsThomas Lifson

Congratulations to Rep. Jason Chaffetz, who had the wit to recognize an opportunity to help change the political narrative without relying on consultants, focus groups, or a hundred page report. Alex Pappas of The Daily Caller reports:

Citing figures indicating that more than 100,000 federal employees owe more than $1 billion in federal taxes, a House committee on Wednesday approved legislation that would require the firing of government workers who are "seriously tax delinquent."

The legislation, introduced by Utah Rep. Jason Chaffetz, advanced through the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. It now has to pass the full House to be implemented into law.

Assuming it passes, the bill forces Democrat senators, especially the seven up for re-election in states that voted for Romney, to choose between their financial and organizational dependence on government employee unions and voter sentiment back home in states like Alaska, South Dakota, Louisiana and Montana. The House Democrats have predictably opposed the measure:

Democrats on the committee opposed the bill. Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings, the ranking member on the committee, said the legislation "seeks to demonize federal employees rather than ensure their compliance with tax obligations."

"By requiring agencies to fire employees for not paying their taxes on time, the measure actually undermines the ability of the government to collect the unpaid taxes," Cummings said. "It is much, much, much more difficult to recoup the delinquent taxes from someone who is unemployed." (snip)

"In fact enactment of this legislation will increase costs to the taxpayers by requiring agencies to spend time and resources to review public records to find tax liens filed against current or prospective employees," he said.

Rep. Cummings is pretending that the real problem here is the amount of money currently owed, not a bureaucratic culture that tolerates such outrageous behavior. Any taxpayer knows that the real problem is the social contract between taxpayers and their government. We pay our taxes, painful though they are, and they get to enjoy fantastic privileges at work: medical benefits, lavish secure retirement, and job security, not to mention higher pay than in the private sector for all but the top levels. In return, we expect them do their jobs and to pay their damn taxes, just as we have to in order to survive.

The left has excelled at writing large scale narratives, with Republicans and cartoon versions of key constituencies as the villains. The religious right, the war on women, and GOP fat cats as the source of the 2008 crash, for instance. At last, the GOP is fighting back.

The fact is that the Democrats have become the government party, and it looks out for the power, perks, and welfare of government employees a lot more assiduously than it looks out for average Americans. And government bureaucrats are not popular. People resent pictures of lavish parties the bureaucrats throw for themselves in Vegas.

So the House should pass this bill and send it over to Harry Reid. Let the Democrats tell voters why well paid bureaucrats who think they are above paying their taxes ought to be able to keep their jobs and then retire to collect a pension the rest of us could only wish for.

New York Prepping Tax Breaks for Jimmy Fallon-led 'Tonight Show'

by Christian Toto 21 Mar 2013 37 post a comment View Discussion
Jimmy Fallon won't officially take over as host of NBC's The Tonight Show for some time, but New York legislators are already rolling out the red carpet for him. Make that a "green" carpet.

Not only is NBC planning to ditch Jay Leno for the younger Fallon, the network is considering moving the fable talk show from California to New York. And network executives may have plenty of reasons to make such a shift.

Quietly tucked into tentative state budget is a provision that would help NBC move “The Tonight Show” back to New York, the Daily News has learned.

The provision would make state tax credits available for the producers of “a talk or variety program that filmed at least five seasons outside the state prior to its first relocated season in New York,” budget documents show.

New York set to pursue gun violations as Nazis pursued Jews in WWII

March 20, 2013

New York to launch gun snitch line Thirty pieces of Cuomo’s silver is $500

In German-occupied regions in World War II, the Nazis offered rewards to people who informed on the location of Jews in hiding.

( Eyewitness to History) – …It was posted that the penalty for hiding Jews is death, but for showing their hiding places special rewards will be given.

( Historical Boys Clothing) – …There were rewards for informing on Jews and French people hiding Jews. Conditions were very difficult under German occupations. Not uncommonly French collaborators informed in Jews for the most seemingly inconsequential rewards. That was how the Gestapo found the Jewish boy in Au revoir les enfants–a true account.

( United States Holocaust Memorial Museum) – …Throughout German-occupied Europe, the Nazis made a concerted effort to locate Jews in hiding. German officials and their collaborators harshly penalized those who aided Jews and offered rewards to individuals willing to turn in Jews.

Today, the New York Department of Criminal Justice Services is hunting down suddenly illegal guns with the same fervor the Nazis hunted down Jews. They sent out this letter to to police agencies in New York State, according to Shall Not Be Questioned.

At a time when all of us are finding ourselves doing more with less, a reminder about a resource available from New York State that can assist you in your efforts to solve cases, prevent crime and better serve and protect your communities.

The state has established a toll-free tip line – 1-855-GUNSNYS (1-855- 486-7697) to encourage residents to report illegal firearm possession. The tip line also allows for information to be submitted via text – individuals can text GUNTIP and their message to CRIMES (274637). While the state will provide the administrative support and fund the rewards, the investigation and validity of the tip will be up to each local department.

To spread the word about this free resource, New York State is planning a comprehensive campaign, including public service announcements that will air on television and radio stations across Upstate.

The tip line can provide your agencies with another avenue for receiving intelligence about crimes being committed in your jurisdictions. This initiative is designed for communities where no tip lines are in place and is not meant to replace existing gun tip lines.

Here’s how the tip line operates:

The New York State Police staff the tip line 24 hours a day. Upon receiving a call, troopers will solicit as much information as possible regarding a firearm tip, while allowing the individual to remain anonymous. The caller will be informed that this program is not the traditional gun buyback program but rather is focused on identifying individuals who are carrying an illegal firearm.

The State Police will in turn contact the appropriate police agency with the lead to initiate an investigation. Staff from the Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) will follow up with that agency to determine the validity of the lead. Once the investigation is completed, the police agency would convey to DCJS the outcome of the investigation.

If the information leads to an arrest for the illegal possession of a firearm, the “tipster” will be awarded $500. DCJS staff will handle all of the financial transactions.

State Police staff will explain the program in its entirety upon notifying an agency that a lead has been generated for their jurisdiction. If you have any questions in the interim, please contact DCJS Deputy Commissioner Tony Perez in the Office of Public Safety at 518-485-7610.

Janine Kava
Director of Public Information
New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services

How long will it be before someone has to die over a standard capacity handgun magazine?

How long will it be before “law enforcement” officers get killed enforcing New York’s new law? You can bet Cuomo and the bill supporters won’t be the ones on the front lines making the arrests of formerly law-abiding New York State residents.

How long will it be before gun owners decide to be proactive against rogue “law enforcement” officers violating their oath? Or the person or persons calling the “hotline”?

We can’t imagine anything good coming of offering people $500 to turn in their neighbors for owning a gun or accessory that was perfectly legal to own a few months before.

Just as nothing good happened from the Nazis paying citizens to turn in their neighbors as Jews or for harboring Jews before and during World War II.
