While we're on the subject of media... Remember when hospitals, doctors, drug companies and lawyers did not
advertise? I am fuzzy on the deregulation/ethics rules changes that led to this, but it wasn't so long ago, the airwaves and billboards were relatively free of those ads.
I find hospital billboards particularly grating, as they tout their super-high tech heart center, which one should patronize, because obviously it is better than hospital 'Y's super-high tech heart center. Hospitals and doctors spend millions touting their services, and it's a relatively monopolistic system now to begin with. Seems absurd to me. But they are swimming in profits, so I suppose they need to spend some of that money on marketing.
It would be refreshing to see a hospital ad that says "'We promise not to bankrupt you."
OK that's my rant for the day.
