Kyodo : TOKYO, Dec. 3 (Kyodo) _ Tokyo Broadcasting System Inc. (TBS) plans to set up a company to engage in digital satellite broadcasting, the president of the leading radio and television broadcaster said Wednesday.

The new company will be established by TBS and its affiliated stations as well as nonbroadcasting firms, Yukio Sunahara said at a press conference.

TBS will ask electric machinery makers, trading houses, financial institutions and some other concerns to invest in the planned company, which will be capitalized at 30 billion yen.

Partners in the project will be picked by next spring, Sunahara said and added that the new company will offer various services including high-definition TV programs.

Digital satellite broadcasting is due to get fully under way in 2000.
