The word swamp was a perfectly good word which has been usurped by the silly religious word "wetland". <Two million fishers, farmers and herders live on the inner delta of the River Niger, a huge wetland on the fringe of the Sahara. They hoped the fighting would end foreign investors' plans for irrigation projects that would suck water out of the river and destroy their livelihoods. > In NZ this summer, there was a substantial drought. The Waikato river and groundwater should be sucked out and used to keep much of it green. By lowering groundwater in summer, it would reduce flooding and landslides in winter. Mqurice
