Greg, there isn't much point in continuing. I can post articles with detailed rebuttals of any christian apologist whose writings you care to reference. However, any rebuttal I post will be labeled "pseudo-scholarship " or some other pejorative term.
If you believe that the United Church of Canada is "notoriously led by Atheists" and that the work of a scholar if the stature of Northrop Frye is shallow pseudo-intellectual scholarship it is not possible for us to have a fruitful discussion.
It also seems to me that you mischaracterize the "Jesus Seminar" types. What I have read of the work of the Jesus Seminar appears to be serious scholarship, not working to a pre-judged conclusion. The only prejudice I see in the Jesus Seminar scholars is that they tend to be looking for the Historical Jesus. I don't think that they will find him.
By the way, I can assure you that my father-in-law, a United Church of Canada minister would have found your statement about the United Church of Canada being "notoriously led by Atheists" to be silly.
You also denigrate the concept of "The risen Jesus who lives in their hearts". This of course is one of the central teachings of Paul - the Christ within, not the physical Christ. |
