It may not be buying but the rumor may have coaxed shorts to cover because of the fear.
It seems that yesterday's COMS run was largely due to short covering.
Is there a way to monitor short interest on a daily basis?

Style Pts, ask Paul Paul Blakeslee. He'll corroborate that the #daytraders chat room is capable of influencing market moves in some stocks. During peak hours, there is nearly 400 participants in there at one time. The chat room once moved a stock 100% on zero news within a couple hours. I'm sure Paul will remember that one. Believe it or not...
