That reminds me of a story some ladies from Helena told me. A young French woman had visited Montana and ran out of money and was stranded there. These nice ladies found her one day picking Huckleberries in the summer and adopted her until the fall and then paid for her way back to France. I believe they had a potluck supper to raise money for the ticket. What I found amazing was the matter of fact way they described doing this like it was completely normal and their responsibility. These were country girls, the kind that can break a colt or field dress a deer.
