I have a 77 year old friend who just had a colonoscopy. Of course he was miserable over the prep as are we all. He decided that it won't do it again. He figured, reasonably, that there was no point in going through it again given the probability of problems vs his life expectancy.

It's interesting that when patients make the decision it's considered sensible but when health coverage won't pay for it it's considered rationing.

I think it is safe to assume everyone supports patients ability to determine their own care. At least to limit their own care. It now seems that authoritarian liberalism is spreading from rationing the words we can use to life and death decisions.

Anything that imposes limits on our freedoms that don't cause significant harm to others is an anathema to our founding principles.
