Columbus as good as he was at following a compass bearing but not having an Iridium phone to call someone back home thought he arrived in the Indies and had no idea what to call the indigenous peoples of the Americas. In the USA the term “Native American” is politically correct and in Canada “First Nations” is the nom du jour.
