That explains it. The Alaska gateway did not exist in 2002. So coverage in Alaska was not so good. If you use any device where it is not designed to work, it won't work. Terrestrial phones work only where there are cellphone towers and base stations to receive and send signals to the device. <The last time i used a "pos" globalstar sat phone was in 2002. I have never had a problem anywhere on the planet with an Irridium and that continues to be so. >

Iridium was designed for global coverage. Globalstar was not.

Meanwhile, Globalstar has all new satellites. Iridium does not. Iridium's have been conking out.

For high volume users, Globalstar now offers some very good prices. It might be time for you to review your satellite phone costs and performance.
