BTW, John. I just read that Canada has plans to implement a "bail-in" similar to that in Cyprus, if any of their systemically important banks fail. I've been reading increasingly about Canada's bansk getting into trouble. So the fact that the Cyprus model has jumped the pond is very worrying indeed. If that goes mainstream, then it could cause a run on banks, as Americans get nervous about the safety of their deposits.

I think the damage that the Cyprus model has done is more psychological than monetary. It has opened up the Pandora's box of cash confiscation by governments on unsuspecting citizens. That is a tyrannical outcome. One more bit of freedom that is being squashed. It's amazing how rapidly our freedoms are deteriorating now and how vociferously those moves are defended by those in power and their followers. It's appalling, really. Our kids are going to have the fight of their lives to enjoy even a fraction of the freedom we enjoyed in our lives.
