The code for autonomous vehicles on uncontrolled routes (roads) will have to be incredibly complex. It is different than a vehicle operating on a track or in uncongested skies. Complexity means that there will be bugs.

And the code would have to be accessible to someone. There will be software upgrades. There will be bug fixes. Somebody has to do it.

Can it be done? sure, it's feasible. Can it be done in my lifetime? I seriously doubt it.
