Eventually, it will be cheaper than oil.

For that to happen, gas would have to reach $20/gallon with today's dollars. The world would go nuclear well before that (double entendre intended).

Unless some breakthrough occurs that allows a huge jump in solar panel efficiency for less cost, solar power will never be viable except as a supplemental source of energy.
