Robert- I was wondering if you can explain why Ashtech has been issued just 3 patents, the last one in 1994. Ashtech is considered a key player in the GPS industry, yet it seems they are either not producing many new things, or not protecting their inventions (the latter I find hard to believe).

Ashtech is a private company, so I can't get much info on them. Perhaps you can explain exactly what Magellan is getting for its money. IMO, Ashtech chose the merger over the IPO route because they knew Wall Street would be less than impressed by their balance sheet. On the other hand, Magellan must see some pretty good things in Ashtech to agree to a merger. Or is this merger just Magellan's forlorn hope...show some real profits or ORBI will give you the axe (sell-off or spin-off).

BTW...it's impossible to find out an exact valuation of Ashtech based on the merger terms, since the value of Magellan is a variable.
