Perhaps this has already been discussed in the plethura of posts here, but can someone clue me in as to why Lucent bought Livingston if they were considering a run at Ascend? What does Livingston add to the mix?

FWIW, I'm skeptical of this rumor of a imminent Lucent buyout of Ascend. Nortel may be a different matter though.

>>>Bought me some UTEK today do you follow that one? Your comments most welcomed.<<<

No, I don't. My play on the laser lithography sector is the bottle-neck: Cymer (CYMI). The only 5 stepper/scanner manufacturers: ASMLF, UTEK, SVGI, Canon, and Nikon, all buy their lasers from Cymer. A virtual monopoly. I didn't time the bottom on that one quite right either (avg. high 20s). But I expect $50 within 1998. The short interest is currently an extraordinary 50% (small float). There is a large semiconductor conference in Japan this month, and I'm expecting an upgrade to come out of it. If so, massive short squeeze.
