....speculation about the Q3 result...

Speaking of which, there are only a few shopping days left before year-end - both calendar and new Borland fiscal. This is going to be a watershed result, I feel, since it will set the tone for 1998 - and will be the last set before adding in Visigenic numbers, (both backwards and forwards, as I understand pooling of interest).

So does this thread have any fresh views on the result? I'm still going for minimal revenue growth - $43m, plus or minus one - but am now totally uncertain about earnings...

Will the temptation be to round off the year with the best available earnings number (i.e. by clearing the cupboard of all possible expense accruals and deferred revenues?), or continue to play it cautiously and conservatively, with a view to building insurance for 1998? Either way, it's a sort of "full speed ahead, and damn the torpedos" scenario - the former would make the first full year of Del's reign look really magnificent, the second would effectively give the market a metaphorical finger....

Thoughts, anyone?

I think you may have to go close to the end unfortunately. The january effect and speculation about the Q3 result should push the BORL price along nicely in early January...you never know though..

Paul,

Given the 'drag' on Borland's stock that the VSGN merger seems to have caused, why do you think that Borland will move up on its own earnings prospects before January? Seems to me that the market will have to increase its opinion of the cost of the merger, and both Borland and Visigenic will have to show some impressive new contracts or products for a good move to occur. Why do you think I am all wet here?
