I've posted it here before, but at this stage I would put Ascend's chance of being bought by Lucent at no greater than 3Com's. What does Ascend have - channels into the carrier space? Lucent already has that. What does 3Com have - the best channels into the major ISP, reseller, and retail space, a far more diversified productl line, leadership in multiple lines, top notch manufacturing facilities, worldwide presence, and a huge captive demand for digital signal processors - something LU would love to have.
