When we start to see politicians subverting the rule of law by confiscating depositor accounts or not prosecuting people like Corzine when they steal depositor accounts, don't you think that makes depositors think twice about trusting their banks and their politicians? Humans are adapting to these behaviors all right, and not in a good way. Capitalism only functions well in a strong legal and regulatory environment, where participants have a foundation of trust in the system and it's politicians and regulators. When that trust is broken due to politicians' wholesale disregard for the rule of law, then capitalism becomes crony-capitalism, which is a very bad outcome for the 99%.
