John - Descend, now Ascend, has Frame Relay from Cascade Comm. that it acquired a couple months ago. Frame Relay is useful for telephone network. With Frame Relay, the bandwidth of the phone line can be used more efficiently and reliably. With cable modem, satellite, internet on power line, wireless com, internet phone, tada tada tada, coming in the near horizon, the phone companies are in real need of upgrading the phone line or they will be out of business in a few years.

Plus Ascend's main products are in remote access something, something to do with high end modems. I never quite understand Ascend's business, therefore I never had an interest in that company.

Just for historical record, Cascade Com, now the son of Ascend, pioneered the idea of layer 3 or IP switching along with Ipsilon. Mr Noam Lotan explained to me that Ipsilon's solution is too complex and deviate from the Ethernet standard. MRV's IP switching solution is not per Noah.
