MMX-2 will extend the MMX instruction set. I don't know how
much of an improvement it will deliver. Much like MMX, the
key is for software developers to utilize these new
instructions.

Katmai is a slot2 (physically larger form factor than slot1
w/ larger L2 cache) PentiumII that will run upwards to 500Mhz, include MMX-2 and is slated for release in about 1 year.

A high end machine with 500Mhz Katmai, SDRAM, AGP w/ a good
3D gaming card coupled with the right software should yield
breathtaking graphics and amazing gaming/VR performance.

Then, before you can blink, this configuration will be in
low cost entry level machines and there will be powerful
entertainment applications to fuel yet another worldwide
upgrade cycle. Then, there will be another one following
that around 2004 where standard CPU speed will be around 1Ghz
and memory configurations in the 2-4Gigabyte range. The
things we'll be able to do just boggles the mind.

Anyway, I'm rambling again. I'll know more specifics once
we start developing Katmai systems.

Couple of QiuckFAQ websites on Katmai and Intel's future
processor plans.
