Mike Feibus, a principal at Mercury Research in Scottsdale, Ariz., noted
that Intel Corp. has been slowing down production and has delayed plans
for its mega-plant in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area by a year. "Things are
still kind of loose," Feibus said. "There's still excess capacity out
there."

But chipmakers are hopeful that the increasing use of the Internet and
new applications for personal computers and other consumer electronic
devices will spur sales.
