"Republican president that was anything more than mediocre. Not that he was great, but at least he wasn't a failure and/or an embarrassment. The only decent to great Republican presidents were all very liberal, up to and including Lincoln who would be aghast at the Republican party today."

True! I just re-watched "Lincoln", and wondered what happened to THAT Republican party and THOSE Republicans? I think they were marginalized about the same time the trust-busting TR was forced to run as a "Bull Moose". They are all Democrats today.

Lincoln would CRY at what's become of his party.

Look at it from their point of view. Reagan is the only conservative, Republican president that was anything more than mediocre.

I know but they're grooming him for sainthood. If the Pope were S. Baptist, the Vatican would already have their petition.

Not that he was great, but at least he wasn't a failure and/or an embarrassment. The only decent to great Republican presidents were all very liberal, up to and including Lincoln who would be aghast at the Republican party today.

Yup. In R terms, a successful pol is one whose failures aren't all that obvious and he didn't embarrass them like Guv Jindal with his 'here today; gone tomorrow' sand berms or Sen. Larry 'tap tap' Craig.
