The bottom line is that some things take time. Yeah, in theory Obama could've eliminated the deficit in a year, but it would've involved either raising taxes significantly on the wealthy, putting hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of Americans in the streets, and/or gutting the military. Each is probably worse than running a deficit for a few extra years.
Yes, but one of Obama's priorities when taking office wasn't deficit reduction or the economy, but rather the passing of ObamaCare, which has been a long-standing goal of the Democratic Party.

That huge increase in government is the very opposite thing that should have been done if the economy or the deficit were priorities.

That along with other actions by the Obama administration makes the deficit his to own. What's the point of saying that Obama inherited a mess when he's going to leave behind a bigger mess?
