You can even earn an NP degree online.

Top Online Accredited Nurse Practitioner Degrees

To become a nurse practitioner, one needs to become a registered nurse and also have a Master of Science in nursing ( MSN) degree from an accredited university. Each of the following schools offers at least one accredited nurse practitioner degree.

To suggest, for a microsecond, that a visit with the NP is the same as one with a physician is crazy.

I would agree if the purpose of the visit is diagnosis of something not obvious. But if the purpose of the office visit is routine chronic-care follow-up, like for blood pressure or diabetes, I don't see a difference worth differential payment.

Again, if the NP isn't qualified, he shouldn't be doing it. Someone qualified should be doing it. If she's doing it, then she should be paid the same.

I would agree that if the patient shows up for an office visit that is beyond the scope of the NP's qualifications and he has to refer it, then he should be paid commensurate with his contribution, which is less than the doctor who actually does the job.

Even if it was, it shouldn't be up to the government to decide what other people can pay them.
