If we need to spend more then lets tax more. What I'm against is spending more today by borrowing and printing, which makes us feel good today, but destroys the future for our kids. There is no free lunch. When we deficit spend through borrowing or printing we are stealing from future growth to pay for today's extra growth.

It's very similar to when you don't have money, but you really want that extra toy, so you put it on the credit card. Well, that makes you feel good today, but you have to pay that back in the future.

So you call it austerity, as if that was an insult. I call it being fiscally responsible. And if private demand is shrinking and the consensus agrees we need to spend more to fill the hole, then raise taxes to do it.
