The Dec. 8th issue of Time magazine has an article on the remarkable health of the U.S. economy. In a sidebar, they list four "worst-case" scenarios:

1. The Japanese Threat - the Southeast Asian crisis pushes Japan into depression, forcing them to sell Treasuries.

2. The Euro Threat - confidence in the single currency is shaken.

3. The Oil Threat - Saudi Arabia cuts back production to raise prices.

4. The China Threat - conflicts with the U.S. lead China to threaten to dump Treasuries.
