Harmens -- Sadly I must agree with you. We argue politics back and forth on this board quite a bit but always seem to end up in unanimous agreement that our government, regardless of party affiliation, is not working in the best interests of its citizens, nor can it be trusted to be honest and forthright about anything -- anything. You're right -- the last time they took a peek inside Fort Knox was 1974, and before that, in 1953 when Eisenhower first took office. We already know they can't ship back the comparatively tiny fraction of gold they owe Germany. So, do they have anything in there but a few IOUs? If they have the gold, then why are they fighting tooth and nail to prevent an audit? That sure does promote an air of suspicion.
