I think you will start seeing more of this type of approach by companies where the shorts are (for the lack of a better word) excessive. 36% of FSLR's float was shorted as of last count. By releasing their press in the middle of the trading day, they basically "nuked" the shorts.

I used to think that (in general) most shorts were slightly smarter than the average investor but I don't think that is the case any more. I've seen to many situations like FSLR and NFLX lately. Like long investors who ride down stocks from their peaks, too many shorts are failing to cover when they've had huge gains.
