Ted, that ruling is in favor of restrictions on the 2nd amendment, which I am in favor of.

They never argued against an individual right to bear arms, even though they did discuss in some detail the concept of the word "militia" in the text.

Yes, they do right here:

we cannot say that the Second Amendment guarantees the right to keep and bear such an instrument."

But then they turn around and somewhat neutralize that statement with this statement:

And further, that ordinarily when called for service these men were expected to appear bearing arms supplied by themselves and of the kind in common use at the time."

They were on the right track but then hedged their bets.
