"Police have zero powers of discretion in following their rule book."

Not true they have all kinds of discretion. It depends on the circumstance and often how the offender reacts to the arresting officer. Cooperation and a repentant attitude often results in lesser charges or even a simple warning. Resistance, belligerence and physical violence on the part of the offender often results in forced compliance and having the book thrown at you. DUH!

"If they want a confession they have numerous tricks to elicit that."

The really bad guys are not stupid. Of course they use tricks to discover the truth about committed. There is nothing illegitimate about that. There is little interest in eliciting false confessions from innocent people. It may happen sometimes but it is certainly not the norm. Police often have to deal with the absolute scum of the earth. They do a job that you would never have the balls to do in a million years and yet you are the first one to run crying to them like a little girl when you have your feelings hurt. What a pussy.

"It doesn't surprise me at all you would be chummy with the police."

Not chummy at all. I know quite a few cops socially and they are all decent people. I've also met some that were asshole power control freaks (probably atheists). They should be run out off the job in my opinion.

Most of the problems with traffic enforcement would go away if our politicians had the balls to take the collected revenue away from the police but we get exactly the kind of governments that we vote for so that's not really the cops fault, now is it?
