As a result of socio-biological pressures, there has evolved among homo sapiens a sort of "herd morality" which functions well in the perpetuation of our species in the struggle for survival. Sort of a herd morality? Man is absolutely a social creature and does not for a moment survive on his own without belonging to some tribal group & this fool glosses over this like it was just an exercise in breathing. What an immense talent this cloistered professor has for gross understatement & simple mindeness. But there does not seem to be anything about homo sapiens that makes this morality objectively true. Moreover, on the atheistic view there is no divine lawgiver. But then what source is there for moral obligation? He just answered that in the first sentence ,we learn from the pressures of the tribe,from whatever socially ordered community one finds themselves born into and most all human beings have a natural capacity for empathy & shared concern within their familia , tribe , state or nation. You'll find out what your moral obligations are very quickly everytime if you go against the prevailing codes of behaviors set down in that social circumstance by those agreed upon standards. The rest is juvenile attempt at attacking materialism but even a pure materialist still has the capacity for many shades of a similar set of distinctions possible, easily as many or more than any who pretend to a divine law giver. But few are truely pure materialist as your Dr Doolittle poses so an argment of pure fantasy and one might as well stick with the materialism if just for the realism. When human populations rose to numbers of millions at those crucial junctures where power was contested in vast nationalistic uprisings you get those materialistic responses of controls certainly ,whether it was a mass ethnic cleansing in Germany or a Stalin's Russia.
