Jim,

It's interesting to see how closely Some of the opinions in this article align with what we've been discussing on this board for what now seems a very long time. This includes the sudden apparition of microwave radio links on the scene -- which I have mentioned repeatedly going back to the original forum, and which I've discussed offline with Petere a few years ago -- whose latency characteristics are superior to fiber. Diminishing returns w.r.t. further reductions in latency would be an obvious outcome when viewed rationally, but we're talking about stock trading here, just as it is in other pursuits, such as demand-response against a constant supply of generation while overall demand rises, and data center virtualization, where the goal is reducing infrastructure footprint and PUE, or power utilization efficiency, in the face of burgeoning demand as well. I happen to believe that significant improvements, of essentially equivalent desired outcomes in each of the latter two areas are still possible, but not without first undergoing the pains associated with working through structural changes, i.e., significant paradigm shifts.
