Basically what happened is I lost money on my overall short position. After awhile, the statements no longer showed the short position, as cash was in the account to pay for the losing short position plus extra. All the short stocks were already bought to cover. But when I transferred my account from Datek to Waterhouse, it seems as though they took the available balance, not the real balance. I went through all my statements and just realized this. So thus Im hit with a margin fee for the extra funds that the broker I transferred the account to took out. So the account I transferred it to has the margin funds I gather.

The next time I do a transfer I guess Ill have to specify the funds to take out, I didnt realize that the brokerage firm could take out the available balance so I told the other firm to take out all funds.
