Re: Syquest (or is that OT on this thread these days)

Did you happen to notice that Harper stated that Syquest was running production 24 hours a day, seven days a week in order to produce those 50K SparQs and 90K disks? While initial demand is encouraging, it was not planned for (also stated by Ed) and thus may actually be at least a short term negative.

Not meeting the potential demands that the Holiday season brings suggests missed opportunities. The ability to expand production while currently maxed out, coupled with poor cash flow and other financial constraints will certainly impact any fast additional ramp-up.

It was also interesting to me to see the low ratio of disk to drive production. It's not clear to me, however if 50K of those 90K disks are included as starter disks with the drives, which might mean they're producing only 40K disks this quarter for individual sale.

It's hard to say what Syquest is capable of achieving with regards to expanding production. In addition, predicting demand beyond the Holiday introduction is difficult at best. However, given the hole they're in, it seems to me that they still have a very long way to go.
