re - The AMD .35um process has been "tweaked" to start producing 233mhz
parts ... any continued drift of process parameters could take these
yields back to zero.

Isn't this unlikely - drifting to zero is pretty drastic and I don't think CPQ would have signed on if it thought that was possible. The main thing for profitablity would be the ASP for the units that are being produced.

re -The AMD .25um process is not as aggressive from a performance point of view as compared to Intel ... thus AMD will be at least 1-2
speed bin behind in Desktop and Notebook markets during '98.
re - Unexpected problems ... like low .25um yield would be extremely damaging.

This remains to be seen. I think AMD has to be aggressive with their .25um ramp-up and I'm hoping that they will not repeat the mistakes of .35um This is the key for AMD for 98. Most of the market does not have an issue with the performance of the chips.

I agree that the stock may move slightly down to the teens but I don't think that the stock will stay there for long. No matter what AMD still has enough assets to be very atttractive at that range and will be pushed back up. Also all semis are hurting right now and once this cycle is ridden out the stock should benefit - bottom line 18-30 range over the next 2 months and back in the high 40's by June! How's that for sticking my neck out.
:)

ps - how do you make words italic or bold in this window screen?

You forgot the possibility that AMD become a candidate to be bought. In the extreme thin margin due to market competition, the best way for the first tier OEM to compete while still making money is to built the CPU by themselves. Thus, the best candidate for CPQ, DELL, IBM would be AMD.
