Joe,

That's good news as it matches with my experience on M2: Cyrix has downgrading MX rating.

Lots of quality motherboards from Taiwan are capable to run 83Mhz bus speed quite reliably. For instance, I bought an Asus SP97-V which run the undocumented 83Mhz perfectly. It uses SIS5596 chipset.

Talking about chipsets, do you know why Intel hasn't implemented 66-bit PCI in their chipset roadmap? DEC already used 66-bit PCI bus slot in their Alpha motherboard and has shown the copycat what to do it right. Things must be getting tough for Intel because of nothing left for them to copy from. <gggggggggggggggg>

With 1.6 billion compensation from Intel, DEC could use the fund to create several new MPUs series. BTW, the Wall Street analysts haven't deducted this lawsuit compensation from Intel's quarter earning yet!

After giving up the consumer market, AST is to give up the corporation market as well.

zdnet.com

AST and IBM PC are the best examples how they sticked to Intel processors only and failed. AST (Samsung) might not be in such a miserable result if they adopted MediaGX in their line during 2Q/97. Sticking to the technology loser fails AST. I guess that Samsung might review their relationship with Intel more seriously after this quarter is done.

Joe,
I thought the M-tech R548 used the SIS 5582 chipset. I've never heard of a SIS 5591 chipset that the article uses. SIS also makes a 5598 chip set that has viseo on board. Either the author mislabled the chipset or there is a new SIS chipset.
