Rob,

This was from latest 10Q: This increase reflected that the gross margin rate earned on high-end disk drives had largely been eroded during the three and six months ended September 29, 1996, while the Company transitioned high-end disk drive manufacturing to MKE.

Does this mean that QNTM is effectively shifting the money-losing high-end unit to MKE? If so, this is a shrewd strategy and we should expect to see a rise in earnings even after charges. This is effectively a spin-off that we were discussing. What do you think?

Sankar

<<Lets get those letters going to the CFO, CEO and board that investors need a
stock buy-back to show confidence in the stock at this critical point. >>
I'll second the motion. It sounds as if Quantum is on the fence on this one so letters here could really help. It is very important to mention that even a small buyback would be a vote of confidence and better than nothing. (A large buyback is out of the question given Quantum's desire to maintain a strong balance sheet). If they can buy 3 mil shares for $20 less than the stock will soon be worth, that's $60 million ahead and nothing to sneeze at.

Can you please wait before contacting CEO and CFO? Please, please please? My grand mother has promissed me a few stocks for Christmass. I want to sell them and get some more QNTMs, but I want to do the transaction the 2nd jannuary 1998. So surely you could wait a little longer.

21st of Jannuary is not too far off any way, and I am sur that earnings will surprise us by exceeding forcasts.
