Once I thought Obama was a Raygun Republican. Then I remembered Raygun raised taxes on GE. Maybe he was an Obama Republican.

Yeah, I have been in the 5% my whole life. As far back as 9 years old I was fighting the authorities when they were being stupid e.g. when the YMCA was swatting kids for fun, or the boy Scouts stupid rules. I fought both organizations at the age of 9. And looking back, I was right and they were wrong, but 9?

And it makes life hard. I was raised by a very very kind women who grew up very poor, but educated herself by reading. She told me the truth about everything and insisted on kindness. Other than that I was raised "free range" in California.

She cared nothing about my sexual exploits, fighting bullies, or much of anything else other parents get mad at kids about, except being a decent human being and kind to animals. A friend of mine told me just last night when I watered down my paper to our assembly regarding our housing problem which is killing the poor:

"Too bad, I kinda like the know-it-all take no prisoners style of yours!

I told him it was nice someone knew who I was, and he said it was probably good they don't-lol.

Think about it. What if you were a 9 year old kid who had been raised extremely liberal in the 50's. No phony baloney stuff, no racism or sexism, or prejudice of any kind, mother is an open (to me) atheist, loathed Republican's, and won't tolerate any cruelty. When I was president of our fraternity I outlawed hazing. Had to fistfight the past president to do it-lol.

The 5%ers spend their entire lives swimming upstream against convention and I think get a little tired and shell-shocked by the end of their life. Those who can use humor to soften their positions do best. But most of the time 5% liberals are in the closet.

Even now how many full blown liberals does one see in the congress? Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren.

Wharfrat is a 5%er as is sioux pal and most on his thread. I would guess roadwalker is one here? Most of the great liberals like Einstein, Montaigne, Mark Twain, Lincoln and Thomas Mann get sort of bitter by old age for all the stupidity and meanness they had to endure in their lifetimes.

So for the 5%ers only one out of twenty will see their point of view; and three out of twenty can empathise with them. Sort of.
