Don, I have evidence suggesting a "leapfrog" by WDC/APM to GMR...

WDC recently announced they were going to "change the game" to handle competition. This strikes me as an unusual statement from the management. WDC's management is excellent and forward thinking. I believe (but cannot prove) that they ARE thinking about accellerating the move to GMR. Haggerty is no fool and would definitely have thought of it (jeesh, even I thought of it!!!). The statements in the press release suggest that may be what they are going to do. It IS a pretty good way to get ahead of the competition. WDC is going to go through a painful and expensive transition anyways. They will lose market share and incur losses/charges. Why not go straight to GMR and get it over with. They would be ahead of the game when finished rather than having to go through another costly catch up game AGAIN in another year or two.

I figure it's like taking in your car for a new alternator. You tell the mechanic: "While you're in there and have taken everything apart, go ahead and replace the belt".

My money is where my mouth (and what little brain I have) is: long APM and long WDC. "buy low/sell high" has always been a stressful strategy for me, and these two stocks are no exception.
