Did You Get This Fake Apology Letter In Your New York Post Today?

Many people who saw the New York Post‘s coverage of the Boston Marathon bombing investigation over the last several days have been waiting on the paper to apologize for what can easily be viewed as sloppy, misleading and irresponsible journalism. And at least a few readers of the Post got that apology in their morning papers today.

New York-based website ANIMAL composed their own letter of apology on behalf of New York Post editor-in-chief Col Allan and hand-inserted copies of it into an unspecified number of newsstand copies of the paper and handed them out at key locations, including outside News Corp.’s headquarters in midtown Manhattan.

In the fake letter, Allan apologizes for publishing information that was “at best ill-informed and speculative, and at worst intentionally misleading and harmful to lives of those involved.” The letter goes on to mention that the New York Post was the first outlet to falsely report the arrest of a suspect in the case, as well as a death toll of 12 that never ended up going above 3. The apology also covers the now infamous “BAG MEN” cover that misidentified two innocent men as suspects.

Read the full letter below:

In reality, Allan defended the paper’s decision to run the cover photo of the two innocent men on Thursday, saying, “We stand by our story” and claiming “we did not identify them as suspects.”

Ted,
Will you get off if he gets water boarded?
It was meant to be tongue-in-cheek, but I sure want to know how the two brothers became radicalized.

At least one of them is alive, so maybe we can learn something from him.

"Dead men tell no tales."
