We have elected four liberal Democratic governors in the last 40 years and a Democratic house in the 70's for a few years. That is why our social system is so advanced. It is interesting that it was in that short period when the dems controlled the legislature in the 70's that we got our permanent fund to save some of the oil money for the KIDS!

We had to fight the oil companies and the Republicans, blood in the streets, to get that permanent fund. The Republican's hating big government and carrying water for the oil companies fought it and the oil companies wanting no oil taxes fought it.

We wanted to put 50% of oil revenue into the permanent fund for the kids, but could only get 25% and had to give a lot away to the oil companies to get that.. Still that 25% has allowed us to pay no state taxes for 40 years and give everyone in the state about $1,500 per year and we now have 50 billion in the bank and are in better shape than any other state in the union.

Liberal dems did that.

That was all done by liberals. A liberal Republican Jay Hammond and a liberal young democratic legislature in the 70's.

Had the Republicans been in power there would be no permanent fund and we would be very poor right now as our oil runs out.

The oil companies have been our largest danger from day one as they tried to buy our legislature so as to not have to pay taxes. We dems knew that. A dozen Republicans have been indicted and many convicted of taking bribes from the oil companies in the last decade or so. Not one dem has been indicted. And the pubs also take a lot of money from the oil companies but not the dems.

So what do you think about that?

I guess people that live in Alaska (your neighbors) must be really stupid since they elect Republicans over and over to govern them. .....or maybe they are all just millionaires and billionaires taking orders from the Koch brothers? Do Alaskans elect so many Republicans because they are just a bunch of uneducated racists?
What is it that Alaskans don't like about the Democrats?

I'll be watching for Alaskan Senator Mark Begich to be removed from the Senate in 2014. It'll be a good day.
