There's no psychological drama in aliens being discovered. < Proof of life elsewhere in the universe could have profound psychological implications for human belief systems.> I take it as given that there is an infinite array of DNA on other planets and extra-somatic cognitive process filling the cosmic aether. How could there be otherwise? Carbon does what it does which is form various crystals including DNA.

Discovering aliens even in the next galaxy, or even right here in ours, isn't going to affect CO2 production or taxation, or parking tickets, permits, regulations and bylaws, or other myriad government hassles. We have enough aliens right here voting for more of the same every election and more aliens making more laws without bothering about those aliens living three galaxies over.

Aliens were running around Boston just the other day, putting it in "lockdown" so millions of people had to hide inside while a wounded single person tried to hide which he did in a boat where he was only found when the silly "lock-down" was ignored by the owner who was curious about the torn cover and phoned the police who then claimed credit for capturing him.

If the police had simply said, "Hey, could you citizens please find and catch the people who did this, $100,000 reward if you can bring them in alive" it would have happened faster. But that wouldn't have been as much fun for the police who love nothing more than a good excuse to take over and be totally in charge. It would have saved a lot of overtime pay too. Amusingly, the Russians had already put the FBI onto them as being a terrorist danger. But as with the Twin Towers destruction, the FBI were busy organizing lunch and hassling people for Islamophobia and other "hate" crimes such as being impolite or even rude.

"Shelter in place" seems a pathetic response from the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave in the face of a single wounded young man. Even if he wasn't wounded, he was fleeing on foot. Even if he still had a car, it was not a major threat. More importantly, crime was probably really low for the few days involved as regular criminals kept a really low profile and did not commit crimes.

Total murders were probably less than normal, even including the bombings which killed only 3 people. As bombers, the Bostonian jihadists were nearly as hopeless as those who tried to bomb a British airport with LPG containers. They had watched too many movies and obviously thought such things do huge booms and blow up lots of stuff.
