Bill: I'm still under the impression of an April 1998 date. Lucent started trading in April of 1996, not Oct. of 1996. AT&T held 80% of the Lucent shares from April96 until Oct96. In Oct96 AT&T released those shares to the owners of AT&T. I think the pooling-of-interests accounting method is based on the first day of public trading of Lucent shares. Lucent has to wait 2 years as of the April-96 date. Well, I could be wrong, but that's my understanding of the tax rule... until later.

PS. Taxes are fun!!
